This is a project I’ve been working on as a character designer for the website Purpulo.com. It’s a children’s story about a boy who finds a magic umbrella who takes him to adventure in some magical lands.
This is the first character I created for the website Purpulo.com. She’s a fairy from a faraway land. I love how big her hair is :)
Just some random quickie warm ups before work! :)
私の夢を明るく (”watashinoyume o akaruku”). Translated, it means “Light up my dreams”.
This is the final painting I did at the Imaginism Workshop. T (Thierry LaFontaine) let us choose any theme we wanted. I wanted something meaningful, surreal and Ghibli-inspired. Needless to say, I had a blast painting this one, SOOO much FUN! Even though the background frustrated me a little bit (I had to redo it 4 times before I could come up with something I liked heheh).
I painted the characters while I was at the workshop, the rest of it I painted at home :)
This painting is dedicated to those afraid of having hopes and dreams. Don’t let fear take over - just light up one tiny piece of hope at a time. Little by little. Don’t ever give up :)
This month I went to the Imaginism In-House Workshop and this is one of the paintings our mentor, Thierry Lafontaine, gave as assignment. We had to pick a fruit and incorporate that in a painting along with wood texture anywhere you’d like. I came up with this dragon fruit girl :) this is the final version.
Hope you like it as much as I enjoyed coming up with it! :)
I had a blast painting this one! This is a concept art of a possible still from a personal short film project I might work in the future :)
It’s a lost tropical bird discovering that color can pop even in harsh winter places.
Some random faces :) just for fun
Another piece to promote the website.
Now you can see at what Shai was peeking at. :)
A piece I did to promote my website :)
I wonder at what the little monster is tip toeing to look at…
Speedpaintings! Used references but painted without color picking with the eyedropper tool. It’s so hard! Trying to train my eye to pick the color i’m seeing, not the one i think it is (if that makes sense). Not that i think using the eyedropper tool is cheating, i even do it myself in other paintings, i just want to get faster at picking colors when painting :)
This is the final assignment in Alex Woo’s Gesture Drawing class on Schoolism.
You have to create a story with the poses Alex gave us in a video. I didn’t follow the exact same poses, just added a little twist to fit my story better. It didn’t call for a storyboard format, I just thought it’d look a little better like this :)
If you ever consider taking a Schoolism class, I not only completely support and encourage you, but I can give you a discount, since I’m a Schoolism Alumni! Just click on the button on the right where it says “Schoolism Alumni” and you’ll get your discount code! :)
This is one of the final lessons, Lesson 06 - Extrapolation. Where you use a pose as reference to translate it into another character. Alex asked us to use a character of our own to use in this assignment :) a LOT of people used cats… I don’t really know the reason… Anyway, this was one of my favorites, for sure! :)

Early this year I took a Gesture Drawing class on Schoolism taught by the brilliant Pixar Story Artist, Alex Woo. It was an amazing class that astonished me on how much I learned from Alex. I’ve never taken a gesture drawing/life drawing class before, so I got into this class with a pretty raw vision.
I’m posting just a few of the assignments Alex gave us. He’d give us a video of a model making several poses for us to capture, and also ask us to do some sessions of cafe drawing (drawing people on public places), which you can see by the orange sketches I’m posting. Don’t mind the really messy lines… I just had seconds to capture each pose.

This is a currently unnamed bee character that I created last week :) hope you like it!
This is a Dumbo fan art I’ve been meaning to get done for some time now. I love the scene where Dumbo’s mom sings to him while she’s trapped, it’s so sad and beautiful at the same time!
Anyway, since tumblr always resizes my wallpapers, if you want it in a better resolution (1920x1200), you can get it on my DeviantArt gallery here (hit the DOWNLOAD button on the right side to get at full resolution) - http://lilibz.deviantart.com/art/mon-bebe-cheri-304341635 - hope you like it as much as I enjoyed drawing it! :)
